Biography

Dr. Jill A. Singleton-Jackson received her BA in psychology from Oklahoma State University. She received her MA in Community Psychology from Wichita state University and her PhD in Higher Education from the University of North Texas. She has worked in both clinical settings and higher education. She has been teaching for 30 years. Dr. Jackson has been at the University of Windsor since 2003. She is a member of the Department of Psychology where she is an associate professor. She is the Coordinator of Introductory Psychology and the Psychology Undergraduate Program Chair. She has won the Kate McCrone teaching award twice and the UWSA Excellence in Teaching Award as well as the OUSA Award for Teaching Excellence. Dr. Jackson has spent most of her career teaching large classes and works to find ways to make this type of learning environment engaging and valuable for her students. Her research centers around teaching and learning concepts with an emphasis on Academic Entitlement and Mentoring in the Classroom. Her approach to teaching is driven by the desire to provide her students with opportunities to find their best selves. She holds the belief that her job as an educator is never to block students from their dreams but to show them how they can achieve those dreams. She believes that teachers change lives and change society and that educators have an ethical duty to create a thinking populace. When she was in graduate school, she came across a quote that inspired her own education and continues to inspire the education she provides for others. That quote is from Derek Bok: “If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.”
